My Very Wicked Halloween

Posted on

I seem to have left you all waiting with bated breath to see my Halloween costume so here it is…
IMG_8694

I think it was pretty successful! It was definitely the most demanding of all my costumes to date as there was a huge amount of making/crafting this look!

The cape was made by my wonderful Mother, I did offer to help (many times) but as I’m not allowed near her sewing machine I was demoted to onlooker/tea maker/model. It’s so fantastic I can’t stop wearing it around the flat!

IMG_8604 IMG_8612 IMG_8649

The horns where a paper mache/spray paint and glitter glue creation that may have been much messier than it probably should have been. I followed the methods I posted from my previous post.

IMG_8650 IMG_8665 IMG_8669IMG_8686

Add in the hair and make-up and I think the end result was pretty effective!

IMG_8689IMG_8692(doesn’t The Boy look good as The Huntsman!?)

It wasn’t just me who looked amazing we had a whole flat full of freaky costumes…

My Halloween countdown is starting NOW

My Halloween countdown is starting NOW

As you may have guessed… I LOVE Halloween!

I think last years total of Halloween dress-ups (including a fancy dress bake sale at work) came to a grand total of 5 – which admittedly is pretty excessive but it was awesome!

This year I am FINALLY being allowed to have a Halloween party so its costume planing time! We’ve gone for a Grimm theme. Fairytales, stories even Disney as long as its gory and NOT Mean Girls slutty! So I’m thinking of channeling my inner wickedness and go with the fabulous Maleficent!

Maleficent_by_chill07

As always I started with a Primani sweep and a few hours happily pinning away on Pintrest and have come up with an action plan. Looks like I need to focus on 4 sections of this costume… dress, cape, horns and make-up.

I found a dress with a pleathery top and a chiffony skirt that I’m using as a base item which I’ve ripped and roughed up a bit. I’m going to make a longer skirt with my extra material from past outfits and vines creeping up my legs (hinting at her spell in the Disney film!)

IMG_8432

I this I’m going to need a belt to hide all the layers and have been looking at these on ASOS that might work perfectly…
image4xl image1xlThe cape is the big thing… this is going to involve a wee bit of help from some one much wiser and more skilled (my lovely mother) so this is still a work in process – fingers crossed!

With the horns I’ve found this fantastic blog Chrix Design who might love fancy dress more than me! She has a great tutorial on how to make horns really easily using foil as a base looks simple enough (famous last words!) Thankfully my lovely housemate has offered to help me!  Hopefully she will save me from a paper mache hell!

2013-08-22 19.53.03

Lastly MAKE-UP which is where the wonderful world of Pintrest comes into its own. I think I’m going to play around with some different ideas but all using purple, green and black… these will be my inspiration!

9c3956aefe134a459f7ce950880b63f2 8969dc6804a1ec945989064cac9a22a0 4b8cab626c584f6820012d49887a1dcc0936c91464e973167713fabf4ae8a330 adfebf9dba358a5c924e8b1971e47dce

I’ll have my lovely photographer at hand (otherwise known as The Boy) and will get photos of the finished thing up so you can see if I managed to pull it off or not!?

Before I go on a slightly random tangent have you seen the photos of the beautiful Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam from True Blood) as Malifeficent in the new TV series Once Upon a Time?
122MaleficentCTVOUATIf she’s only half a sarky as her character in True Blood it will be amazing!

Glossybox July Review

Glossybox’s summer spectacular box got delivered last week wasn’t its most impressive for me. Yes the box was pretty being all blue and beachy and yes it was a nice surprise to get some Green & Blacks mini chocolate bar but none of the products where particularly useful

IMG_7155

Alterna -Bamboo Style Boho Waves Texture Mist

alterna_bamboo_waves_800x800

Get tousled, “just-back-from-the-beach” waves with this weightless mist. Adds texture, volume and healthy shine to all hair types.

Now it doesn’t feel that long ago since I was sent one of these Sea Sprays and I wasn’t really a fan then. I have wavy/curly hair and adding this too it always makes it feel a little bit crispy. Though thinking about it… it may help with move of the vintage styles I’ve been trying out? It’s a nice sample size … just need to find a use for it.

Pukka Ayurveda -Radiance Serum

pukka_serum_800x800_2A wonder serum that will leave your skin feeling fresh and bright, gently fragranced with sandalwood. Suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive. Aloe vera and manuka honey to soothe and refresh. Gotu kola and lemon balm to tone and brighten the complexion.

This is a nice product – not something I would buy for myself but with the london tube smog my skin can always do with a bit of brightening!

COOLA – Mineral Face Tint SPF 20 Rose Essence

coola_rose_800x800

Keep the sun and environment at bay with this SPF 20 broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen, a tinted, light Rose scented, Titanium Dioxide based formula (for those who are Zinc sensitive) made with 98% natural ingredients.

Another tinted moistrizer. It’s light on the skin and protects from the sun but getting bored with them now!

Ciate – Paint Pots Pocket Money

PP107-pocket-money-200x245

Ciaté use a combination of professional and lovingly chosen high performance formulas. Our beautiful and sophisticated packaging encourages an incredibly artistic and effortless nail painting experience. The long handle provides you the best strokes every time. With a dense 250 bristle flat brush, you are guaranteed a flawless even finish. The bottle has been ergonomically designed to sit comfortably in your hand for maximum control. The formula is amazingly pigmented, long-lasting and available in a range of finishes whilst formulated to be easy to apply. And finally, the iconic satin bow as the finishing touch which crowns each polish.

Really pretty full size bottle of polish… shame about the bleh colour! Come on Glossybox whats with all the nude colours? If I’m going to paint my nails why would I want o one to notice!?

Anatomicals – Spray Misty for Me Facial Spritz

anatomicals_face_spray_800x800

For normal, dry and sensitive skin. This facial spritz with calming lavender and refreshing peppermint extracts, helps to rehydrate and calm skin. Wonderful every day, during flights, at the beach, in the city or in the office

This is the only useful and properly useful in the summer product I received! large-sized sample, smells fantastic and will be a life saver on holiday next week! Doesn’t smudge my make-up about and is really refreshing! Perfect!

Over all not one of the best. Nice enough products but feels like I’ve had most of them before! I would have loved to try the coconut dry shampoo or the nail raps or the face oils – shame! Let hope they pull it back in the next months box.

GlossyBox June Review

So this review has taken a while to go up partially because I’ve been at Download but partially because Glossybox didn’t send me one of my products so had to wait for them to send me a replacement!

June's Box

This is Glossybox’s summer box which was perfectly timed for Download and my up coming holiday! 4 miniatures perfect for my overfull backpack and 2 full-sized products – another pretty fab box.

MONU – Hydrating Moisturiser SPF 15

monu_moisturiser_800x800

Soft focus technology helps to blur imperfections and to correct skin tone. We use Zinc Oxide to provide a physical barrier against the sun’s harmful rays. This provides broad spectrum UV protection with good UVA to UVB ratio. Includes Vitamin E, an antioxidant, to fight free radicals. The best way to stop your face from ageing is to protect it from the sun.
This was unbelievably useful at the festival. The 30ml bottle was perfect for squeezing into my overfull backpack and with the SPF 15 in it when the sun did finally come out it saved my stupidly pale face! Smells nice too!

FIGS & ROUGE- Cherry Blossom

figs_rouge_800x800

100% Natural Tinted Lip balms in Soft Cherry, Blush Pink & Shimmer shades.

I’m not a massive fan of lip gloss… a little bit too gloopy for me. This one smells lovely and is all shimmery. In small doses I think I could like this! This is a full-sized product but perfect for the handbag!

NUXE – Huile Prodigieuse® OR

nuxe_800x800

95.2% of the ingredients in this Shimmering Dry Oil are of natural origin, it is a unique combination of 30% precious plant oils and Vitamin E to nourish, repair and soften your face, body and hair in a single step. Your face and body are left feeling soft and silky. Your hair is supple, soft and shines with health. The sensual golden particles leave a subtle shimmer on your skin and enhance your every move.

This is the product I was missing which I think it could have been really useful for the festival but think it could work well in Italy to stop my hair getting fried! It’s come in a cute glass bottle, easy to fit in my suitcase!

PAUL MITCHELL- Ultimate Wave and Full Circle Leave-In Treatment

curls_ultimate_wave_800x800

Ultimate Wave™
Beachy Texture Cream-Gel
Secret weapon for creating sexy, tousled beach waves.
Forms, separates and adds loads of texture.
Humidity-resistant for perfectly imperfect frizz-free styles.

Full Circle Leave-In Treatment™
Frizz-Free Curl Therapy
Lightweight conditioning treatment won’t weigh hair down. Do-it-all formula hydrates, detangles and tames frizz. Replenishes thirsty locks and helps protect against damage.

These two little sample bottles are what I am most excited about. My hair and heat are not friends so I’m looking forward to taking these bad boys to Italy and actually having good hair whilst I’m there!

Q – Body Spray

q_800x800

Q is a collection of lighter, high quality fine fragrance body sprays for wearing everyday.
The female range – Radiance, Balance and Awe – is a blend of fine fragrances and soft sense-active deodorant protection.
Sheer, floral top-notes delicately blossom on the skin evolving into deep warm, sensual base notes for confident all over body fragrance and freshness.

It’s a nice spray. For a full-sized product it will still fit nicely in my make-up bag. Doesn’t smell like Impulse which is always good!

Again a rather nice box! Roll on July’s goodies

GLOSSYBOX May review

I had my lovely monthly treat turn up at work this week. It’s GlossyBox’s 2 Year anniversary and I think they decided to treat us all with full-sized goodies which I’m very impressed about! They are also running competitions all month on their facebook page to win a different product each day! They’re spoiling us!

My May GlossyBox

4 full-sized products, a sample pot and a free gift of GlossyBox matchbook of nail files… a pretty good haul!

COLLECTION- Fast stroke eyeliner

800x800_collection

COLLECTION FAST STROKE EYELINER IS A FAVOURITE WITH BEAUTY FOLLOWERS EVERYWHERE. ITS SPECIALLY DESIGNED NIB IS FIRM ENOUGH TO CREATE BOTH FINE AND BOLDER LINES BUT NOT SO FIRM THAT IT DRAGS DELICATE SKIN. WITH JUST-THE-RIGHT-CONSISTENCY FORMULA IT MAKES PRECISION LINING SO EASY.

Always enjoy a good eyeliner and this is definitely smooth and it drying quickly so no smudging which is always a plus!

JELLY PONG PONG – Fairy Lashes Mascara

http://www.glossybox.co.uk/jelly-pong-pong-fairy-lashes-mascara

This is not for the faint-hearted. Our first ever mascara is formulated to make eye lashes flutter & flap. Water-resistant, Fairy Lashes makes eyelashes thicker & curvier while allowing them to be spectacularly soft & light. A truly fabulous effect for the woman who wants to emphasize one deep, intense, seductive look.

A really good size and instantly made my eyelashes look thicker. Will make a fab addition to my make-up bag!

PAUL MITCHELL – Shine Spray TM

800x800_a_shinespray_blackbg

Pamper hair from the inside out with Awapuhi Wild Ginger™, with proven ingredients to restore weak, damaged hair.

Add brilliance to any style with the silicone and paraben-free Awapuhi Wild Ginger™ Shine Spray™. This clean, light mist adds luminous shine and helps protect hair from daily wear and tear making it ideal for heat styling. Natural Awapuhi extract balances moisture for a healthy-looking finish.

Smells a little like a glass of ginger beer but didn’t make my hair go heavy or greasy but there was a nice shine… think this will take a bit of experimenting!

BEAUTIFUL MOMENTS – PRIME & CREATE MIXING MEDIUM

800x800bm_prime_create3e3

A true hero product which compliments our range of loose minerals. When combined with mineral powders and pigments, this amazingly versatile product will allow you to create dozens of different make up finishes.
Use under your foundation as a matt finish primer or mix with loose or compact powders to create many different products.
Mix with mineral foundation powder for a long lasting airbrush finish or with mineral concealer for heavy duty coverage. You can also mix Prime & Create with eyeshadow pigments to create an intense finish or as a liquid liner. Other uses include mixing with Beautiful Movements Marble Sparkle eyeshadow to create a cream highlighter or Summer Warmth bronzer to create a bronzing cream. The possibilities are endless!

This was the most disappointing product in the GlossyBox this month. The ‘mixing media’ itself if fab but the container feels and looks cheap and nothing like their website image. Very unappealing.

HEADLINE COLOURS – Nail Polish “Poolside Party”

800x800_headline_colors_poolside

Designers are bringing a hint of the desert island to those who have chosen a staycation this Summer. Ripples of Aqua coloured fabric wafted down the runway at Gucci and turquoise blue eyes flashed with Swarovski crystals at Dior. There has never been a more feel-good colour at Fashion Week; against the grey skies of London models skipped down the catwalk with sunny smiles on their faces. Will this colour be the hit of the season? Just ask Chanel…]

LOVE this shade! Been really loving the SS13 nail varnish colours that have been hitting the shops and this is a great shade! Will be wearing this loads I feel!

Thank you GlossyBox team! Fab box this month!

Down the rabbit hole…

Another day another Halloween party to attend!

This time it was N*A*S*I*N’s 9th Halloween Monster Mash at the Borderline and we decided to go as Alice in Wonderland characters!

I decided to be the Mad Hatter but as there are so many different visions I thought it would be fun to go more steam-punk and tweed up! Thankfully good old Primark came up trumps again with tweedy jackets and shorts galore! Add my steam-punk corset and another fantastic hat The Boy found in Camden and my outfit was complete!

I customised the top hat with an old scarf, tartan flower broach, a In This Style card and a sleepy door mouse and I used nail varnish on the tea-pot.

I wanted my make-up to be slightly out there… this was my reference image

The end result looked like this…

(Luckily we had The Boy on hand as our Halloween photographer)

We had a Malice in Wonderland…

A Cheshire Cat…

And the Queen of Hearts…

Clearly we enjoyed out outfits…

(there was also a very reluctance white rabbit… note the ears lols)

We owned Halloween this year!!!

A Very mOBSCENE Halloween

A Very mOBSCENE Halloween

I’m sure you would have guessed that Halloween is my favourite time of the year what with my LOVE of fancy dress.

So far this year I’ve been Mystique, a Firefly inspired space cowboy,a Hippy & The Pink Panther

It was safe to say even I was getting slightly fancy-dressed fatigued!

Even so Halloween seemed to creep up on me and I had a couple of days to cobble a costume together before the big VOODOO ROCK night in Angel.

I managed to find the perfect jacket in Primani and The Boy found me the perfect hat in Camden so I could create a mOBSCENE outfit…

So all I needed was face-paint and BUCKETS of fake blood to do my make-up

Think it worked out quite well?

Of course everyone else’s costumes looked amazing too

Braaaains….!
