My Very Wicked Halloween

Posted on

I seem to have left you all waiting with bated breath to see my Halloween costume so here it is…

I think it was pretty successful! It was definitely the most demanding of all my costumes to date as there was a huge amount of making/crafting this look!

The cape was made by my wonderful Mother, I did offer to help (many times) but as I’m not allowed near her sewing machine I was demoted to onlooker/tea maker/model. It’s so fantastic I can’t stop wearing it around the flat!

The horns where a paper mache/spray paint and glitter glue creation that may have been much messier than it probably should have been. I followed the methods I posted from my previous post.

Add in the hair and make-up and I think the end result was pretty effective!

It wasn’t just me who looked amazing we had a whole flat full of freaky costumes…

My Halloween countdown is starting NOW

My Halloween countdown is starting NOW

As you may have guessed… I LOVE Halloween!

I think last years total of Halloween dress-ups (including a fancy dress bake sale at work) came to a grand total of 5 – which admittedly is pretty excessive but it was awesome!

This year I am FINALLY being allowed to have a Halloween party so its costume planing time! We’ve gone for a Grimm theme. Fairytales, stories even Disney as long as its gory and NOT Mean Girls slutty! So I’m thinking of channeling my inner wickedness and go with the fabulous Maleficent!

Maleficent_by_chill07

As always I started with a Primani sweep and a few hours happily pinning away on Pintrest and have come up with an action plan. Looks like I need to focus on 4 sections of this costume… dress, cape, horns and make-up.

I found a dress with a pleathery top and a chiffony skirt that I’m using as a base item which I’ve ripped and roughed up a bit. I’m going to make a longer skirt with my extra material from past outfits and vines creeping up my legs (hinting at her spell in the Disney film!)

I this I’m going to need a belt to hide all the layers and have been looking at these on ASOS that might work perfectly…
image4xl image1xlThe cape is the big thing… this is going to involve a wee bit of help from some one much wiser and more skilled (my lovely mother) so this is still a work in process – fingers crossed!

With the horns I’ve found this fantastic blog Chrix Design who might love fancy dress more than me! She has a great tutorial on how to make horns really easily using foil as a base looks simple enough (famous last words!) Thankfully my lovely housemate has offered to help me!  Hopefully she will save me from a paper mache hell!

Lastly MAKE-UP which is where the wonderful world of Pintrest comes into its own. I think I’m going to play around with some different ideas but all using purple, green and black… these will be my inspiration!

I’ll have my lovely photographer at hand (otherwise known as The Boy) and will get photos of the finished thing up so you can see if I managed to pull it off or not!?

Before I go on a slightly random tangent have you seen the photos of the beautiful Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pam from True Blood) as Malifeficent in the new TV series Once Upon a Time?
122MaleficentCTVOUATIf she’s only half a sarky as her character in True Blood it will be amazing!

Another day another Halloween party to attend!

This time it was N*A*S*I*N’s 9th Halloween Monster Mash at the Borderline and we decided to go as Alice in Wonderland characters!

I decided to be the Mad Hatter but as there are so many different visions I thought it would be fun to go more steam-punk and tweed up! Thankfully good old Primark came up trumps again with tweedy jackets and shorts galore! Add my steam-punk corset and another fantastic hat The Boy found in Camden and my outfit was complete!

I customised the top hat with an old scarf, tartan flower broach, a In This Style card and a sleepy door mouse and I used nail varnish on the tea-pot.

I wanted my make-up to be slightly out there… this was my reference image

The end result looked like this…

(Luckily we had The Boy on hand as our Halloween photographer)

We had a Malice in Wonderland…

A Cheshire Cat…

And the Queen of Hearts…

Clearly we enjoyed out outfits…

(there was also a very reluctance white rabbit… note the ears lols)

We owned Halloween this year!!!

A Very mOBSCENE Halloween

A Very mOBSCENE Halloween

I’m sure you would have guessed that Halloween is my favourite time of the year what with my LOVE of fancy dress.

So far this year I’ve been Mystique, a Firefly inspired space cowboy,a Hippy & The Pink Panther

It was safe to say even I was getting slightly fancy-dressed fatigued!

Even so Halloween seemed to creep up on me and I had a couple of days to cobble a costume together before the big VOODOO ROCK night in Angel.

I managed to find the perfect jacket in Primani and The Boy found me the perfect hat in Camden so I could create a mOBSCENE outfit…

So all I needed was face-paint and BUCKETS of fake blood to do my make-up

Think it worked out quite well?

Of course everyone else’s costumes looked amazing too

Braaaains….!

Another month, another fancy dress party to attend!

To celebrate two of my friends being in their house for over a year now they decided to throw a Cowboys and Indians party. Initially I was stuck… I didn’t want to go as something generic and typically my friends go ALL OUT with fancy dress (which I’m sure you have caught on by now) I hit the internet and got very distracted whilst trying to do research…

Did I want to go über vintage and go for the rodeo cowgirls get up?

Or the traditional Clint Eastwood look?

Pin-up cowgirl?

As Jane Russell in the outlaw?

Or even true grit styley?

Then it hit me… what is my favourite western… that’s set in SPACE… FIREFLY! I get to be all steampunky and have a huge space gun!

Shockingly I owned most of my outfit already so all I needed to buy was a top which thanks to Camden market was quite easy to pick up!

Think we all ended up looking pretty fantastic…!

Now I just need to get on with making a hippy outfit for next month party!

Who wants to be a SuperHero!?

The beginning of February saw the night I had been planning forever… My 25th Birthday!

In true Ms Lenith style a strict dress code/theme was put in place – Super Heros Vs Super Villains and everyone was told a few months in advance to give everyone time to get their outfits organised!

I decided to go as Mystique (the very warm option) from Xmen

I started with a Blue body and mini skirt then used this youtube video to do the details on my face/body paint…

The end result was this…

(hairband came from here and was very handy to keep my Bettie Page fringe back – and is also AMAZING!)

Lucky I have very lovely new housemates who didn’t mind me giving things a slightly blue tint!

I was quite nervous that I would be the only one who made any effort, which was a complete underestimate of my amazingly mental friends… despite the snow everyone made the most AMAZING effort!

We had Batgirl and Joker

Batman and Robin

The Black Canary

Wolverine (a fellow mutant)

Hit Girl, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn

It was the BEST night… Camden really didn’t know what had hit it!

My friends ROCK!

The countdown begins… 24 days until The Belle Epoque Party Halloween special

I love Halloween!

For me there is no better time of the year (xmas comes a close second… maybe if there was more fancy dress…?).

I’m a massive fan of dressing up at all times but Halloween means being covered in fake blood and looking as scary as poss without too many funny looks!? But this year I will be swapping the fake blood for glitter and heading to the Belle Epoque Party! I don’t think I could be more excited!!!

I have been wanting to go ever since I went to one of their sister parties (the Blitz party). It sounds right up my street…

Get ready to be transported to the sin filled alleys of 19th century Paris for La Belle Époque. Celebrate bohemian style and applaud debauched elegance at this unique new event that promises to indulge the artistic side of partying.

La Belle Époque allows you to re-live the absinthe fuelled hedonism of 19th century Paris with the people who brought you Blitz Party and Prohibition.

Lie back in one of many velvet lined alcoves and watch aerial and trapeze artists perform over your head as you sip on La Belle Époque’s Absinthe inspired cocktails. Watch the showgirls perform French dance hall classics and immerse yourself in a sound that could only have emerged from the streets of Paris’ red light district.

With tickets at only £20 I jumped at the chance to do something different for Halloween! Lucky for me Blondie, the Boy and my work girlys are more that happy to come with me!

Only a month to pull together a fabulous costume eeek! The Dress Code:

Ladies drape yourself in feathers & squeeze into a breath-taking corset, Gentlemen embrace your devilish side with dashing masks, coat-tails & top hats!

So as the Boy is over in Germany we spent last weekend sorting out his Halloween costume! We hit Camden HARD. Came away with black highway boots, a white pirate like shirt with billowy sleeved and a lace up front and a black cane! All we need now is this red devil mask to come back in stock and I volunteered myself (I don’t know how) to make a cape (thinking crushed velvet!?) and he will be quite a fetching Devil! I do love that he lets me dress him up!

Now my outfit is a little bit more tricky. I’m thinking burlesque woodland creature!? Lots of emerald greens and reds.  I’m using these images as my inspiration…

My shopping list as it stands is a killer corset and meters and meters of tulle to make a skirt like above! Hopefully not too difficult a task!? I’ll do an update of the final thing when (if) I finish it!

What is everyone else doing for Halloween? Hope your all dressing up and up to no good! Just avoid the Mean Girls slut rule…

“Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.”

And remember you can never have too much fake blood!!!
